Ways to Get Active If You Hate Exercise

A lot of us want to lose weight but we hate physical activity. Just the idea of spending an hour at the gym makes us cringe. Does this mean that we are destined to remain physically inactive? The answer is "no." For those of us who lack motivation in the fitness department, there are certain other activities which we can take part in as a means of attaining weight loss and overall health.

One way to reap weight loss benefits without actually exercising is by walking. Yes, even something as simple as walking can offer numerous health benefits. Walking is a simple, free and easy activity for beginners. An hour long stroll (at 3 mph) can burn as many as 246 calories. A thirty minute brisk walk on the other hand (at 4 mph) can burn 141 calories. Another fun activity is cycling. Thirty minutes of moderate cycling (10-11 mph) can help you burn 211 calories. A physical activity that is a little less fun yet it does not resemble exercise at all is often referred to as housework. Scrubbing, hovering and mopping may not be fun, but they certainly offer calorie burning results. Just an hour of general housework can burn up to 246 calories.

Another fun activity which does not resemble exercise is gardening. Gardening is great for anyone who loves to be outdoors. This particular activity does not have to be strenuous in order to illustrate weight loss results. Simply two hours of basic gardening can help you burn 684 calories. This is definitely a great alternative for those of us who don't like to spend thirty minutes on a treadmill at the local gym. Therefore, as you can see, exercise does not have to necessarily translate into hours upon hours at the local gym. Exercise can be made up of any number of activities which increase our activity level.
